School Council & Eco Council

School Council

The School Council is made up of elected members from each class. The Council provides an excellent opportunity for children to take on roles of responsibility.

The children work as a team, supported by Mrs Wheatcroft, on projects which are designed to improve the school or provide additional enrichment opportunities for all Mornington children. The School Council also help to organise fundraising events for selected charities or school development projects. The children represent the school superbly at new parent meetings and when showing other visitors our school.

In Summer 2017, the School Council took a lead role when Mornington received its ‘Investors in Pupils’ reaccreditation. The School Council carried out behaviour surveys and observations and presented its findings to the assessor. The School Council continue to carry out behaviour observations and feedback to classes.

Eco Council

The Eco Council is also made up of elected pupils from each class and supported by Mrs Wood. The Eco Council meets at least once per half term. The Council play a very active role in deciding upon school campaigns which focus upon energy, litter, waste, water, global citizenship, outdoor learning, gardening, sustainability and biodiversity. The children have led walking to school campaigns, gardening competitions, litter bin poster competitions, formulating the school’s Eco Code, measuring the school’s food waste and helping children understand their own impact upon these issues. We are very proud to have achieved the bronze and silver Eco School awards. The Eco Council now aims to integrate sustainability into our curriculum as well as practices in our day to day activities in school. We hope to apply for the Green Flag Award.
